Join the Barn Quilt Movement
You’ve seen barn quilts displayed around Maine’s Western Mountains. Maybe you, or someone you know, would like one. Maybe you wish you could make one.
Yes, you CAN make one!
If you can use a paint brush, you can create your own barn quilt.
Each Dark Star Barn Quilt Workshop gives you the guidance and materials you need. At the end of the two-day workshop, you will take home a barn quilt done the way you like it and you will know how to make more.
Isn’t it time you joined the Barn Quilt Movement?
In a Dark Star Barn Quilt Workshop, You Get…
The Design You Want
If you do not want to draft your own board, we will draft it for you using the design you choose.
Any pattern, drawing or quilt block you like can turn into a barn quilt*. If you are on Facebook, you can see barn quilts created in our 2024 workshops here and here and here and here.
The Colors You Like
Do you have a favorite shade of blue? We provide exterior paint in a variety of colors and we can mix colors at your request.
Of course, if you already have exterior latex paint in the color you like, you are welcome to bring it. We do not recommend trying to use paint-makers’ sample colors.
The Board and Materials You Need
At the start, your board will be ready for you: sized, primed and designed (if you asked us to draft it for you). You will have paintbrushes and tape, along with tools you can borrow, to create your barn quilt from start to finish.
The Attention You Deserve
With three experienced instructors on hand, you have all the help you need.
The Space You Require
Dark Star Barn Quilt Workshops take place in the Philips Area Community Center, known locally as the PACC.
We reserve exclusive two-day use of the building to offer you all the space you need with easy parking, plenty of tables and chairs, rest rooms and a convenient kitchen.
*While there is usually no extra charge for drafting services, certain complex designs might require a modest surcharge ($20 or less).

“Thank you for a wonderful class! I had so much fun! You did a wonderful job making sure there was nothing we needed or wanted. You were all great answering our questions, encouraging us, giving advice, and always checking in with us. You certainly know what to do and you do it well. I look forward to taking another class in the future.” CH
“You won’t find better and more understanding teachers anywhere! Gerry was the most fantastic color mixologist with paint that I ever met.” SI
