A Machine Sewing Class Just for Kids
This class introduces students to basic machine sewing concepts:
- Choosing colors and fabrics
- Lining up edges and pinning seams
- Sewing a straight line on the machine
- Leaving a seam allowance
- Using a hand needle for finishing
Dark Star Fabrics will provide the materials and pre-cut the fabrics. There will be no cutting fabric in the class.
Students will graduate from the class with a new skill and a finished product, a 12”x18” patchwork placemat.
Interested? We suggest you enroll your student as soon as you can. To make sure each participant receives personal instruction, each class is limited to just four students.
Age and Skill Level
Although there is no fixed age range, students should have the maturity to guide fabric through a sewing machine and the manual dexterity to use pins and a needle.
Rachelle Knight, co-owner of Dark Star Fabrics, started quilting when she herself was a kid. Now a mother of two home-schooled boys plus an infant, Rachelle is an experienced machine sewer and provides Dark Star Fabrics’ long arm quilting services. She is a member of the Narrow Gauge Quilters, the Mad Hatters Quilters and the Pine Tree Quilters Guild.
When and Where
Because participation is limited to four students per class, Rachelle is teaching the same class twice. When you enroll your student, please choose which class you prefer:

Friday, February 22, 2019

The class will take place in the classroom at Dark Star Fabrics, 30 Main Street, Phillips, Maine.
Dark Star Fabrics has sewing machines available at no charge. If a student has access to a machine at home , however, we encourage the student to bring the machine to class. This will help the student develop familiarity with the machine he or she will use most often.
The $15 fee covers the class plus all fabrics and materials for the class. Please pay at the start of the class or earlier. Adult Observers/Helpers are welcome to attend at no extra charge.
