The Barn Quilt Movement
You’ve seen barn quilts displayed around Maine’s Western Mountains. Maybe you, or someone you know, would like one. Maybe you wish you could make one.
Yes, you CAN make one! Just choose your design. You can turn any quilt block you like into a barn quilt.
For inspiration, see the barn quilts created during our recent workshops here and here and here.
Gerry and Sharon Hicks, Deb Black and Rachelle Knight of Dark Star Fabrics will give you step-by-step classroom guidance and the materials you need.
At the end of the two-day workshop, you will have your own barn quilt, ready for display, plus the know-how to create more.
Come join the Barn Quilt Movement and help spread the beauty of barn quilts.
Holiday Workshop
Barn Quilts Make Great Gifts.
(COMPLETED)
We hosted our final 2024 Dark Star Fabrics Barn Quilt Workshop on Saturday, November 16, and Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 10:00 until 5:00.
The workshop took place in the PACC (Phillips Area Community Center) Building, 21 Depot Street, Phillips, Maine, just around the corner from our retail store.
Skill Level
If you can use a paint brush, you can do this.
What’s Included
Included with the workshop are the materials you need to create your barn quilt from start to finish:
- Pre-primed plywood board, cut to size and ready for your design
- Variety of colors of exterior latex paint*
- Foam brushes, paint brushes, frog tape and hanging cleat
Tools available for you to borrow during the workshop will include metal ruler, exacto knife, measuring tape, cups for mixing colors, pencils, eraser, dryers and fans.
* If you have a special color you like, please bring a card to show us. Please do not bring cans of sample paint because most sample paints will not work with barn quilts.
Free Drafting
When you sign up for a workshop, you can ask Dark Star Fabrics to draft your design pattern on your board for you. There is no extra charge for this service.

* The November workshop took place in the PACC (Phillips Area Community Center) Building at 21 Depot Street, just off Main Street, in downtown Phillips. Because we reserved exclusive use of the building for both days, everyone had a great time working on their Barn Quilts in a festive holiday mood, complete with homemade Christmas cookies.
